Europeans have more sense.
Europe has state religions, America has freedom of religion
Europe has established churches which has resulted in more cynical view of religion
The origins of the U.S. was based upon a religious pilgrimage away from persecution. Giving up theistic beliefs would feel like cutting off a piece of our ancestry.
