Emphasize critical thinking, problem-solving, and research instead of rote-learning
Allow innovators to create new schools and new kinds of education via minimally-restricted school choice
Higher standards.
Only young children can easily learn language. Teach 3 languages by social immersion starting at age 5, so that our children can participate in the communities and markets of the world.

Increased funding. Besides the other needs (higher standards, parental involvement), there is a serious lack of funding.
Stop using schools as a mill to produce docile 'employees', where failure is for life. instead give time and space for children to have a childhood and learn to be creative contributors to society.

Allow real consequences for failure, combined with second chances and support for those who need and want it.

By requiring that all immigrants speak English as a criteria for remaining in this country, thus enabling our education system to teach only in ENGLISH.

Look at the top performing schools in the world and implement similar strategies.
